I have 10 hens now. I started with 12, the 4 oldest were olive eggers, that were 2 1/2 years old. In the past 3 months 2 have passed away. They both started the same way having a discharge from their vent, being thinner then straining to lay, I never felt any eggs stuck inside. My second one prolapsed, I was able to fix the prolapse and they lived and seemed ok for a another 3-4 weeks following. They both acted normally ate usually but because I had the 12 hens I wasnt sure if they returned to laying. I eventually found them in the runs on their sides dead. Each seemed perfectly fine no injuries. Now I have # 3 of the third olive egger active the same. She has discharge appears thin but I see her eating. Shes staying in the nest box all day. Ive had fecal slides done. No worms. I checked for mites, lice nothing. All 8 other birds are fat and healthy. And I get up to 8 eggs a day so I believe they must be laying. I dont know what's going on and I wonder if the last olive egger will be next to get sick and I'll lose all four. Any ideas please ?
They eat Kalmbach layer feed 17% protein, have meal worms , fresh fruit and veg , cooked egg and shells given to them as snacks periodically throughout the week. They have free range oyster shells. I am clueless as to what to do next.
