i need help on chicken laying

i have been readin alot about my chicks laying eggs and i know that they got to be about 4-5 months old but i am also reading that they need to have a certant amount of light each day is this true ????? and if soo please tell me how much light they need

14 hours a day seems to be the accepted norm.We have a light in the coop that comes on from 5 am- 8am to guarantee enough light for laying and it works well!
