I had chickens arrive from Cackle, yesterday. One chick died within a few hours and another one isn't doing well. She seemed to be fine until this morning I found her on her back under the heat lamp when I went to check, I initially thought she was already dead. She has pasty butt, I've cleaned off 3 times. Then just now I went out and she was on her back again under the lamp. I've been giving her some water in a an eye dropper and checking on her every hour. I need to clean poop off her butt just about every time I check. What should I be doing to try and help her survive? What is wrong with her?

She is doing great today!! The last time I went to check on her, I couldn't even tell which one was her. I think she is going to make it :) I will continue to give her the electrolytes/water in the eyedropper. Thank you so much for all of your help.

Are you giving her a probiotic in the water? If not do that and just keep checking up on her give her an electrolyte too at any feed store you can get these little packets to mix in water and it's safe to mix the probiotic and electrolyte it's called "sav-A-chick". I hope she gets better!

Good luck!

It sounds like she is just stressed from the trip. You can add some honey to the water just to entice her to eat.
We had a couple like this when they shipped our order to NY instead of Virginia. It took us a week to get them acting like normal little chicks.

Most important, keep giving her water every hour in eye dropper. (the other posts mentioned electrolytes...which is good too)
Add some honey (just a little) to sweeten the water and perk her up.
Take a teaspoon of feed and mix with 2-3 teaspoons of warm water to make mash. The chicks love it...and it hydrates them. See if you can get her to eat. Make sure too she doesn't overheat.

Hopefully if you do this for a couple of days; pretty much round the clock (I set my alarm for every two hours for the first couple of days) hopefully she will make it.

I pray she will make it!
