Also, EE's are a mix, not really a breed, and won't breed true. I wouldn't call mine good layers, either. I just wanted some blue eggs for the grandkids. They're no longer impressed and I won't get any more. I ddi get a couple of blue egg layers, though -- and one tan egg layer.

Well, it just depends on the EE's background mix. Honestly, Ameraucana's are not the most prolific layers. Many EE's have been bred with more productive layers like Leghorns, so it's kind of a mixed bag. You should check with breeders/ private chicken "farmers" - they will be honest about how productive their birds are.
There is a reason the big egg factories don't produce green or blue eggs, but hey, maybe you could make more money per egg due to thier uniqueness.
