I have an american game rooster thats just a year old and out of nowhere he started getting sores in the inside of his mouth. My uncle told me its canker mouth and to shoot it up with penicilin so i did and its healed most of the way up but is it contageous or what? can i move him back around the other chickens?

I wouldn't put him back with other fowl just yet, what you need to do is purchase some acidified copper sulfate, add one table spoon to a gallon of drinking water, then you give that to him for about a week. They also sell canker tablets, that is made from Metronidazole.

ETA: Don't use the copper sulfate in a metal watering dish.

I personally wouldn't allow him around other birds if he showed any signs of illness, but that's just me. You say it's already getting better, so a week or so of the copper sulfate should do the trick.

Hopefully DT meant to say to meter the above amount at about 1/2 ounce per gallon of water, If not I'ts doubtful the rooster would even drink the soulution at this strength( it would be to metallic tasting) and if he did, he would surely die of a copper overdose..ACS is a better preventative for canker than a treatment, Canker is very contagious when birds drink from the same water. And it also causes a carrier state, so all other birds are at risk...Treat with methrondazole and as a preventative use ACS at 1/4 teaspoon per gallon for three days every month..PG
