If you put pieces of tin foil on it, raccoons will definetely break in there and eat the chickies and then take the foil. Raccoons are extremely attracted to shiny metal objects. Some trappers even use tin and other bright meatals to trap and kill raccoons. I would look for a discounted roll of wire or even go with deer netting. I put the orange snownetting over my run. It works great and you can ask around at construction sites for leftover used stuff.
