Okay I have 2 bantams, 2 ducks, and 7 standards. I let them run around in there 12X12 pen, I just need to figure out how big of a house I need just to put them in at night to keep them warm. And does anyone have some Ideas of insulation because I live in Michigan and you betcha it gets pretty cold here. I do not need to add any extra room either cause I am not getting any more chickens anytime soon, and im trying to keep this inexspensive.

Well....im no expert...but...are you planning on keeping the chickens and ducks together in the same coop?? Ducks are sooooo messy! With 7 standards, and 2 Bantams..you will need about 32 sq ft. Add in the ducks...you will need about 40 sq ft. So, maybe a 5 x 8 coop. As for insulation....we used the styrofoam panels, then covered them with particle board. As long as there are no drafts....they should be ok. Will you be able to hang a light? Maybe on the coldest nights?

If you and your dad build the house yourselves with store bought wood, then you insulate it and you have to cover the insulation...you're looking at more than $200.00.

The important thing is to get those birds out of the cold. It doesn't have to be a pretty house, just a warm one. If y'all can find a place where you can get some scrap wood or pallets even from a construction site that will cut the cost.

I don't know what type of cold y'all have had up there but last night we got down to the upper 20's. If your weather is like ours or colder then you need a house NOW!
