I Need Help!!!

Belgian D'Uccles are my favorite! We have had a few and come when they are called "Clemmie" also has a special little voice she uses for us

(or so we seem to think

And her sister (RIP) also came when she was called!!!!

They do really well with treats and become really friendly!

And not to mention they have adorable little faces and feathers on the feet that I like to call "Chaps"

Good Luck! I never knew I loves chickens so much until we got our first chicks a year ago

I would try getting some from a local breeder if you're only looking for two (try looking here on BYC or your local Craigslist). I wouldn't bet on a TSC being able to correctly identify chicks by breed.

My Easter Eggers (sold by hatcheries mislabeled as ameraucana's/araucana's) have always been the sweetest! I open the front door and they all come running! (looking for food of course!) If I have treats some will even jump on my arm or shoulder! and the eggs are usually blue or green!!

I, too, do not like the (fluffy) silkies!

bleh!! I like the standard chickens!

Good luck with your chicken venture! They make GREAT pets!

My advice would be research, research, research!!! (and learning from my mistakes..) The coop comes BEFORE the chickens! (no matter how tempting those little fluff-butts are!!!)

But you probably knew that already!!

ETA: TSC usually sells a minimum of 6 chicks! and they're usually not sorted by breed and the employees usually have NO CLUE what they are!!

Barred Rocks are also very friendly - my Roxy comes to the coop door to greet me and wants held and petted too.

The ONLY problem with bantam chickens is that they are more apt to fly than the standard sized large fowl chickens. So you'd have to have a covered run to keep them in. You should have a covered run for any chickens, to keep them safe from flying predators, but bantams DO fly up and over fences quite well. But they're such adorable midget chickens!

Anyway, my recommendation is for a Buff Orpington or a Plymouth Barred Rock. They are common breeds readily available at many feed stores. I'd get one of each, so they have each other for company. Unless you feel like you want "twin" chickens.

Good luck!

Thanks for the great advice! Would they fly away if i just let them roam in my yard? As long as i was there and watched them of course.
