Yesterday I found an abandoned baby chick by the side of the road. (I live on Kauai, so there are lot's of wild chickens.) I took it inside, kept it warm, and gave it plenty of water and mashed up oatmeal, but this morning I found it collapsed! it's not moving and has ragged breathing. I've been using a dropper to occasionally drop some water in it's beak, but I don't think that's helping. It seemed fine yesterday! did I do something to make it sick? I'm very inexperienced, and I'm worried it wont last through the night. Please Help!

You are a nice person. Unfortunately, the chick may have been too stressed. I think you did all the right emergency things. I guess most people would recommend Pedialyte if it lives, and some chick feed maybe with water to make a mash. Or something for sick parrots but I don't know the name.

If it dies, just know that you did all you could.

Awww, so sad.

Very very carefully when you dropper water into her so it goes to the right place....otherwise not good at all......dribble gently along beak line...so she swallows on her own and doesn't choke....some folks make a little sugar water mix......to give some energy..
Continue to keep her warm and comfy as possible. Poor little dear.
Thank you for trying to help her.
