I pulled 3 goose eggs out of our pond the other day. Their nest was flooded in a storm. I have been keeping them warm with pillowcases of warmed rice and a heating pad. I know it's so strange. Anyway, I don't know that I was thinking. They are still alive and growing. I have done everything wrong, but when I candle them, I can see their little beaks and bodies moving around. I'm guessing they are around 15 days incubation ( that's about how long the female was missing). What the heck am I doing? Can I keep this up? I'm assuming not....I'm totally freaked out at my incompetence.
Any advice welcomed!!

Do you know anyone with an incubator. problem will be keeping the humidity up when time for hatch or they can shrink wrap and die because they can't internally pip. I'm assuming these are wild geese? very touchy subject here for some not all.

since they are federally protected.

This is what most hatchers use on here.. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/491013/goose-incubation-hatching-guide-completed

Congrats on your success so far. I hope it turns out well for you and any goslings.

Thanks so much ... They are still moving. I'm going to make an incubator tomorrow. I think the temperature has fluctuated so much. I also wonder when I should stop turning them because I don't know how old they are. I appreciate the well wishes.

Maybe this chart will help you decide where they might be in development and then you can decide if you should stop turning..

It´s better to turn than not. the geese turn their eggs right up until hatch. In an incubator, we have to be more careful, of course. Do you not have any broody chickens or ducks that can keep them warm until they pip? Also, by candling, you should be able to see the stage they´re at.

I only have pullets. I made an incubator today with a cooler and lightbulb. I can keep the temp at a steady 99 but I have to keep the lid cracked- thus the humidity is only about 40-50%. I have tried all different light bulb sizes and can't get it right. I would have just bought a real incubator, but I would have to order on line and it wouldn't be here for days so I thought a DIY would be best. I just candled them again and they are still moving around. (pretty neat since they were on a heating pad for 5 days). I can tell that they were too warm before though, so IF they do hatch I'm wondering if they will be deformed. Oh well. It's so neat to see the development.

Hi beegirl, I´m not up on incubation, someone else will be better, but what are you doing for humidity in your incubator? Do you have a little pot of water, or a wet sponge, or what?
