Here, there, and everywhere...
I got two 30 gallon fishtanks this morning, FOR FREE.
One is brand new, with new stand, filter, heater, air pump, air stone, water conditioner, tropical fish food, filter cartiriges, nets, gravel cleaner, wate test kit, etc. etc.
The other is a year old, and completely set up for reptiles, sand substrate (CLEAN), Zoo Med rep heating pad for under tank, reptile sun heat lights, digital hydro/temp meter, logs and hidey holes, rock like dishes, cover, extra lightbulbs, etc.
I answered the ad because two months ago my three kids each got a .15 goldfish from wal-mart to keep in bowls. I told them that if the fish lived for two months that I would let them have a bigger tank and everything.
Well, two months was yesterday. Yesterday I see an ad on my local craigslist from a guy giving away his pristine tanks because he's moving out of state. I happened to be the first one to e-mail him and I got them!
He also threw in a bonus 10 gallon tank with a whole bag of reptile mulch unopened, another digital hydro/temp meter, the cover, and more bowls!

So... I now have a BEAUTIFUL large 30 gallon tank on it's matching stand in my dining room, nearly full and running.
I plan to let it run for a couple of days before adding my kids cheapo goldfish.

Now I'm excited, what else can I add?! I'm certainly not going to maintain a 30 gallon tank for three tiny feeder fish!
There was no gravel and I wouldn't have used his anyway, so I have it 3/4 full with no substrate. I plan to buy some and then rinse it well and boil it before adding it to the tank.
It's been years since I had a fish tank.

I like the natural look. I plan to get some natural colored gravel, maybe some real plants, and then some more fish.
I adore guppies, can I put those with goldfish? I know goldfish like it kinda cool, so I have to keep that in mind.
I guess I could put in some bigger fancy goldfish right?
Any ideas?
How about snails and those tiny little aquatic frogs?

I like mollies and guppies and sword-tails-- they tend to be cheap, but pretty

I love the apple snails they get huge and help clean your tank just make sure they can't get out. Maybe some underwater hermit crabs? Everyone is suggesting fish I wanted to suggest something different.

GET AFRICAN DWARF FROGS!!! They are loads of fun to watch and my favorite

How about those fish that glow under blacklight? I want some of those for mine...only they are $5 a fish....so I'm, waiting with the tank running.

The goldfish are just poop machines! make sure whatever you get matches in temp. Guppies will do fine and maybe some ballon belly mollies!!! and some Danio or neon tetra. I wouldnt suggets mollies or swordfish because im not good with htose and they die on me. Guppies are hardy . get a DOJO LOACH! they are good for cleaning and look cool too. Dont get any barbs or gourami. If you donbt want something as big as a pleco get a cory cat or two and an octocinclus or an algea eater. Where as pleco get up to two feet long an octocinclus only gets 8in and an algea eater only gets 2 in. But I think i have those backwards.
