Trust me Deb, you don't want my Short Bus Silkies. I'm still looking for tiny helmets for them. They just started laying, and one of them runs around like a lunatic, spitting the egg out on the ground and is then frightened of it. Another one I swear was blind, but she's not. She just doesn't know how to eat out of my hand without stabbing it causing piercing agony. And then there's the rooster who follows me around like a stalker viciously attacking my feet. And they DO fly, I swear they do. A neighbor saw one fly up onto the roof of the hen house and asked if I was feeding them crack. Oh, and here's the best part: they will NOT sleep in the hen house no matter what. They pile up like idiots in the corner of the run, exposed and shivering, rain, cold, doesn't matter. I have to hand carry them one by one into the house if the weather is bad. Needless to say, not looking forward to NH winter. I've posted here before about it and people insist that if I try "this or that" that they'll get used to it. They don't. They are determined to sleep outside no matter what I try.

But they're like my bratty special children. I love them even though they are massive rejects.

Your Silkies sound like the Polish I used top have.

I'd go out to shut the door at night and have to go on a chicken hunt with a flashlight.

Find one, pick it up and set it on the roost. Go for another. I swear they would even get a foot away from the coop and couldn't see their way in.
