I have always fed crumbles, but I really want to feed pellets but have never had luck with my chickens eating them. Last year I accidently picked up a bag of pellets at the store and when I got home and realized it, I just thaught "well, they are fixin' to learn to eat pellets." A full week went by, and not a bit of the food was touched. I thaught if I just stuck it out and didn't give in they would get hungry enough and eat them. Well, no. I gave in and went and got a bag of crumbles. They were so hungry I thaught they were going to kill me and themselves to get to it! So my question is, what should I do to get them to eat pellets? Maybe try mixing the two for a while? I really want them on pellets to keep the waste of feed down.

I've switched between crumbles and pellets several times without a problem. They really will eat when they get hungry enough. Yes, I would mix them for a while. You could also crush some of the pellets and mix them together, so they will know that that unfamiliar taste / smell is still food.

Thanks! I actually did think about buying pellets, and crush them into crumble at first and then slowly over a few days back off the crushing until they are eating them whole, but I like the mixing idea as well. Maybe I will do both, but I am determined to get them eating pellets.

Thanks for the advice.
