I need some clarification on possible Coccidosis

Is it the general consensus that ANY bloody stool in chickens should be considered enough proof to treat for coccidosis? My chickens appear healthy, are about 5 1/2 months old and some have begun laying. I have seen a bloody stool once or twice. Is it unusual for chickens of this age to have coccidosis, or does it affect chickens of all ages?

Are you sure it was blood in the stool? Chickens can occasionally have a reddish stool that is not bloody. Here is a link to the Poop Chart -

You could always take a stool sample to a vet for analysis.

I've seen the poop chart, it is frank red blood, not dark colored stool.

Blood is never normal. If I saw it in mine I would treat with Corid and I might also de-worm with Safeguard. Of course taking a stool sample to a vet is always a good idea, but there is always the possibility of false negatives.
