Hi Mark,

Sorry you are still not well.

I would say the same kind of thing as your Nan really. Plus, when I have a cold or flu, I drink fresh lemon in a glass with ginger, honey and hot water.

I have a lot of allergies too so I have to be careful, but one thing that works for me to clear my sinus is Lavender Oil. Be careful becaue it can affect some people's skin, but I put a sachet in my pillow case, or a dab of the oil on a small cushion near where I sleep. Because I am ok with Lavender I also massage my sinus area with it, down either side of my nose and across my forehead.

But maybe it is just taking time to clear for you, if your system is down it can take a while to get over these bugs and infections. You need to rest.
Hope you feel better soon,

Jena.

when i was younger i got congested all the time so my mom finally went with the all natural approach. she got this thing that held a candle inside and you put special oils in there and you sat there and breathed in the scent that isgiven off by the oil being heated by the burning candle underneath. i cant remember the exact name of the oil b ut ill ask my mom tonight then post that. it works really well. if she hadntfound that soplution i probably would have been a very sleep deprived 10 year old! it works very well and also has long term affects to this day i rarely ever get congested an thats without the treatmant!

I swear by Vicks Vaporub. Slater it all over your chest and put on a swetshirt and wrap yourself up. Also, breathe steam. Mucinex is another one to take for the mucus.... I hope you get better!!

Blow your nose..Blow your nose....Blow your nose.. get rid of that gunk....thats a mothers talkin' to you...and lots of rest....and fliuds and sweat it out with alot of blankets....its terrible having a cold....

How old are you? Is 88 the year you were born? If so, you are too young for my grandmother's remedy of redhots (the candy) melted in whiskey.

Another natural remedy for chest congestion is ginger. If you like ginger, you can drink it in tea. I mix some of the powder into regular hot tea. Or, you can make a cough syrup of honey, lemon juice, and grated ginger root. OR you can eat candied ginger.

If you don't like the taste of ginger, you can buy ginger capsules.

I have a 5 year old who has terrible respirtory issues. Even his doctor told me that ginger would be good for his congestion.

Sipping hot chicken broth also does help.

I second the breating of steam or taking long hot baths/showers with a mentholated body wash if possible.

Eucalyptus oil is probably the essential oil that the PP used in her defuser.

Drink drink drink! Staying hydrated will help break up the mucus.

Feel better soon.

Take a chunk of ginger the length of your thumb. Peel it, and grind it up. Boil in about a cup and a half of water for 20 min, add a tiny bit of honey, (will boil down to about a cup), and after it cools a bit, drink it! It will burn like mad! But it's good for you.

Cass - oh...the legal drinking age counts for that, too? That's just stupid.

Eucalyptus. Steam. Vick's Vaporub. Hot showers. I think someone also mentioned the lemon, peppermint and honey mix. It's nasty as all get out, but it helps.

Sorry you're feeling bad. Get better soon!

Yes vics is good. Put some in a spoon, heat over the stove and bring the hot liquid up to your nose (not too close as the hot spoon sure hurts if it hits your upper lip) and inhale deeply. If one nostril clears, plug it and inhale using only the clogged one. Repeat often. It really works.
