Good day to all!!!

I am a NEWBIE to the world of raising birds and have chose to start with Coturnix Quail. I am on my second hatch and have reached day 18, with only 1 bird hatch out of 36. I was told the eggs were 2 weeks old, so I do realize this is a huge factor. I broke open 3 eggs today and the first 2 were just a gooey mess and the third was partially developed.
On my first hatch most of the eggs were well developed and got 8 out of 36.
My humidity and air temp are being held at a constant until I remove the turner and increase humidity to 60, temp at 99.5.
What am I doing wrong???????????????

I cannot help you but, you might try posting on the incubating and hatching page or the quail page to get help. There will be more people with the knowledge to help you out.

Oh yes I forgot.....

You will become addicted to this site fast and find yourself thinking you're a bird whiz just from all the neat stuff you learn purely by accident. Hope someone can get you answers.

hi crazyquail......

you may want to give your eggs some time.. i was told quail would hatch just like chickens... lay still on day 18 and they would hatch on day 21...well they were wrong.. my first batch i had 20 eggs.. i hatched 5 by day 23 and by day 25 had total of 7... (this was the 1st 20 eggs of the season wasnt even sure if they were fertital yet.... i had another 40 eggs going during this time.. on this past monday.. they were on day 23... at 6 am on monday i had 1..at 3 pm had 6; at 5 pm 9 by 930pm 15 next morning (day 24 we had 21; got up this morning at day 25 2 more had hatched.. so either others were wrong or my quail apparently dont know they are hatching late.. anyway... after 25 days of incubation and it is 930pm.. i am up to i think 27 quail.. (from the second batch) and 7 from the first batch that are a week old.. and i have another 120 that should start hatching at end of month.. and my adults are laying at least 20 a day.. not sure what i am going to do with all the eggs.. been doing pickle eggs just because i have way more than i thought i would.. :) neverless... if you if you have a still air incubator; you are keeping water in the basins.. you are keeping a steady temp i would give them a few more days.. at least 25 days.. and then again it depends were you are getting your eggs as well.. i went and got 30 adult birds from a friend to start my adventure so my eggs are coming from my hens.. so that may be the issue... i hope this helps.. i am still new and learning...so far it has been a blast! good luck... kathy
