I NEED THE BEST IDEAS FOR A WINNING SCIENCE FAIR PROJECT

My daughter was thinking about putting food in bowls of different colors to see if the hens favored one color over the others.

Color diferentiation and preference...

Ooohhh I like that one! You're taking something that is a new discovery and putting your own spin on it. Much more cleaver than "Can a rat run a maze?" (which is what I did for my project

).

You could make a totally gross display showing the normal development of the egg, and parallel display showing what deformities can happen at what stages along the way from different medications or toxins. You could just list the deformities, not actually show pics, depending on the age of the participants.
heck, you might get extra spelling credits just for getting the names spelled right of what could go wrong!

We are conducting our own little survey. We have noticed a trend for chickens of the same color to roost next to chickens of the same color/breed. We are not certain, because we have a limited pool. But our observations seem to show that more often than not, chickens of the same color/breed end up together. Our EE girls are all 3 different colors and they do not seem to end up next to each other once everyone is on a roost.
I am not sure how you would test this, but it is a thought we are kicking around.

Good Luck and Keep Us Posted!

I grew up in Alabama, people had cows here and there.
I've never seen them line up in any particular direction, Just all over.

They WILL face into the wind if a storm rolls up though.
I don't know if they were too dumb to go in the barn in a storm or too smart. That barn was pretty rickety.

I have noticed mine tend to segregate themselves by physical characteristics-and I have a little nn pullet that roosts alone because shes the only one :(poor girl
