Someone made a post about adding a weathervane to the top of their coop. It brought back a not so good memory of the year we bought one.

We had bought a very nice weather vane for my step-father one Christmas to go on top of his barn. It was of a rooster and made of solid copper and very large. It was about four foot tall. We paid about 150.00 for this thing. He never mounted it and when he sold his farm he let it go in auction for 10 bucks. LOL! GRR. I would had bought it back but couldn't be at that auction.

This is exactly like the one we bought him. Now getting madder by the minute. The price has seemed to have gotten higher. LOL

Here's my view on gift giving, don't know if it will help or not.

There is someone that I want to give a gift to - friend, family, co-worker, the lady ringing up my groceries - whoever.
I find something that I feel they will like and give it to them as a representation of my feelings - love, appreciation - whatever.
Sometimes the gift is an expensive object, sometimes it's my time, sometimes it's something that I don't want anymore but they would find useful.
The cost of the item doesn't change the feeling behind it.
The reaction to the gift doesn't change the feeling behind it.
The ultimate destination or use of the gift doesn't change the feeling behind it.
I give gifts to give them. And I can't expect any more than that from them.

Very true and well written! It's the thought that counts!! Thanks.

I couldn't believe the price had went up so much on this weathervane. I think it was about 15 years ago when we bought one just like that one from ebay. Maybe the seller is inflating the price some. LOL

Am i missing something here? he sold the farm and did not need it, had you showed and intreast in getting it back you should have said something to him IMO . I bet he would have given it to you.
If he had mounted it on the barn and it went with the farm would you still be mad?

No matter what things cost sometimes we just don't need them anymore.

Let it go

it's a little thing not worth being angry over.

The price went up on the item because the cost of copper has gone up as have many metals heck scrap metal is a big buisness now days.

My neighbors son was laid off so we had him come hall off a bunch of scrap, like old ten from a barn that blew down, fencing , old implements and he made over 3000 dollars in a week just off what we gave him

When we sold my parents' farm, we had a rule: If you gave it to them, it went back to you--whether you wanted it or not! We had enough stuff to go through! Anything else anyone of us 6 wanted, went into a lottery and we took turns picking. Seemed like everyone was satisfied with the results and no family heirlooms were sold.
