I had to get married wearing braces (age 22). The german in-laws kept asking how I broke my jaw.

I had to wear them 3 years, 3 surgeries (4 wisdom teeth, 4 other teeth, and something cutting between the teeth on the gums). All the orthod's I got studies from wanted to break my jaw for real, I passed on that!

Soup and mashed potatoes, ice cream, yogurt...anything soft for the 3 days after adjustments. OTC pain pills at night to sleep. Good Luck! PS - keep up with the retainers afterwards, it IS important
