A few weeks back I was going to bring my young hen to the vet to be PTS because she had something wrong with one of her legs and would flop around on the ground. The night before I was going to have it done I brought her outside for a last foray outside, sort of a last hoorah. She happily stood there eating bugs and pecking at the grass and didn't seem to do the flopping around as drastically so I talked with my dad and we thought that I could give her a little more time if she was still happy, eating and drinking.
Well she has been in my garage in a cage and low and behold she is getting better. Her feathers are coming in, she is gaining weight and her leg has come back to almost a normal position where as before it stuck straight out to the side. She is walking so much better and does not flop around any more. I bring her outside to eat some grass and bugs and get some fresh air and now I have to work to catch her to bring her back in!! She runs now!!! She gets tired fairly quickly and doesn't do well if it is too hot but I am just so excited that she is making it back from whatever she had. She learned the pleasure of dusting herself the other day and thoroughly enjoyed herself.
Now I have to build her a separate cage away from the two turkeys. They tower over her and the tom shows a little to much interest in her. I supposed I will have to find her a friend as well for the winter.
