I never knew it would hurt so bad.

I'm so sorry for your loss, I know it is devastating.

I hope you catch the evil bugger(s) and they get what they deserve.

I was a vegan for 20 years, I would never of thought I would ever get chickens. Never in a million years did I think one day I would be killing a snake after finding it in a cage with my dead chicks. And now I'm looking at getting a gun to dispose of two stray dogs that killed two of my chickens on Thursday. I hardly recognise myself anymore! Lol. I felt so violated too, I'm an animal lover, but I've found that anything that messes with my chicks, I will have no mercy.

I hope things go better for you soon.

jojo@rolling acres farm :

I just came in from checking coon traps with a .22 braced up on my hip. I've used it before and I'll use it again. Coons killed two of my Silkie hens this week. In a "secured" area. Coons are smart and very determined - by the end of this weekend I hope at least a couple more coons will be dead. Your reaction is NORMAL.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Don't give up. Fix your pen and get more chickens. You've already discovered the joy of keeping them. Unfortunately, you've also discovered the pain that sometimes makes an appearance...the visits are usually short. Here's hoping your blood pressure issue gets better again soon. Good luck with the court thing...Keep us posted. We care.

Good luck!

What's so scary for me about this post is that sometimes I'm watching TV when it dawns on me that it's almost dark or is dark, and I have not closed the gate(s) to the run.
Even when I check and see that they're all on the roosts in both coops, present and accounted for, I still feel shaky, thankful, and guilty all at the same time.

so sorry for your loss, good luck in catching the raccoons, I would also recommend getting rid of the chicken wire and getting welded wire and hardware cloth to make your coop predator proof, also bury the hardware cloth or wire at least 12 inches down in the dirt so that they can't dig under the wire, chicken wire is only good for putting around plants that's about it I have looked at a lot of coop/pens and the best ones are made with welded wire and hardware cloth good luck on rebuilding your flock. and yes you should go and get some new chickens they will help in the healing process. and here
