Today my husband found our blue heeler carrying one of my free ranged roosters around.... in his mouth. So i immediately put him up for adoption...

We got him at 8 months old and have had a heck of a time training him. Hes a pain in the butt. So i told him if he EVER ate ANY of my chickens, hes gone. I voted to adopt him out. Hes GREAT with my kids. He's VERY gentle, very loving. But not to my chickens. I need a watch dog NOT a bird dog!!!!!

What do you all think?

but your ad says hes a good work dog..i would put on there that he killed one of your chickens so that someone with chickens will be aware of that.

well he did great herding my goats and my pony! maybe they were too big for his mouth??

ok ill ad it, UGH!!

Im thinking people will freak when i say he killed my rooster! They may think he'd hurt anything. And he wouldnt!

Well. . . My brother once owned a Lab mix that loved to kill chickens. He advertised him as an "Excellent bird dog".

That's too funny about the bird dog!

Sorry about your heeler. It's easier to train them as pups to leave things alone. I hope you have luck finding him a good home. They can be great working dogs, not really guard dogs.

Anyways, good luck.

I would put BOTH things -- good with ponies and goats, kills chickens. Tell everyone the truth so there's no unpleasant surprises.
