I Ordered the Britetap Chicken Water'er!

They won't start using it if there is another, easier, water source.  Have you removed all other water sources from the environment?  When I got mine I just tapped it in front of them a few times to get them curious and they took to it right away.  But when they have their other waterer filled for really hot days they always use that one first.  They are lazy gals!

I hesitate to remove the old waterers because I have a newby girl....I am concerned the 3 biddies will block her away from the waterer.:cd

Ah, I see. I'd wait until she gets settled in and then try removing the other waterer. They usually get it pretty quick once it's the only option :)

Here are tips from the BriteTap waterer owners manual and from the web site:

  1. If you haven't done so, start by removing your older waterer. Like humans, chickens are creatures of habit. If the old style waterer remains in their coop or run, they have little incentive to change to the BriteTap waterer.
  2. Begin the transition in the morning when you first let your chickens out of their coop. Normally, Chickens begin their day by feeding. Since feed and seeds are dry, your chickens will be relatively thirsty when they finish their morning meal.
  3. Now show them the waterer by tapping on the valves and then back away so they have an opportunity to examine the BriteTap. Make as much noise with the valves as possible and let them see the water splashing out of the valves.
  4. If they don't start using the BriteTap immediately, give them 5 minutes and then repeat step #3. Try this several times if necessary.
  5. Don't switch back and forth between your old waterer and the BriteTap waterer! This confuses your chickens and they'll never make the transition. Be patient. Your birds will learn to use the waterer. You just need to get one bird to try it.

I ordered the Brite Tap water and it installed easily on a 5gal Rubbermaid cooler. Unfortunately before I even got to use it my 8 y/o knocked into it with her foot and it totally cracked off at the attachment to the cooler. The plastic seems very fragile as she is not a big girl and the cooler wasn't even filled with water, just sitting on the floor. I tried Gorilla glue, but it only lasted a day and fell off.
