I recommend the Eglu!

We have a green eglu, and love ours too. We're on 2 acres, so I would have built a wooden coop (and had lots more chickens!) but our community bylaws are VERY restrictive!

Here, you have to submit detailed plans for sheds or building of any type and get it approved by the committee. It took us a year to get our backyard fence approval, so I didn't want to even mention the word "chickens" to them!

In our community bylaws it says: "No live poultry or hoofed animals shall be kept on any lot in such manner as to create a nuisance". I took that to mean no roosters (noise), and no smell, as well as no henhouse. We figured a cute, portable, easy to clean "dog house" should keep the committee happy, as well as the chickens.

The hens love it! We have four, and we let them out of the run to free range a couple of hours each day while we sit with them. It's super easy to keep clean, double walled to be cool in summer and warm in winter, and because we move it every 3 or 4 days, we are able to keep the grass happy too. Yes, way too expensive, but it is just what we needed to be able to have chickens here.

(But if I get to move to a farm like I want to, it's gonna be time for a big ol' hen house!)

They are cute but they have bigger and nicer ones for that amount of money. I am lucky since my hubby builds ours from recycled materials. I think the trash can tractors are cool also but could make one for 100 bucks~

Awesome. I love it. When I ordered they told me that Lilac is now available and I was so tempted -- but DH would have nothing to do with it. So green it is, which I'm perfectly happy with anyway. But I love your hot pink hen house!

I bought an Eglu Go (one of the smaller coops) and it's plenty big for my three bantams plus a quart size waterer and small feed dish. Really nice coop! Well contructed and very easy to clean.

The feed and water bowls included are a little big for my banties so I filled one of them with hay and hung it on the fence--they like to sit in it. I opted not to get the run as my rabbits and chickens share a yard.

The design of the coop is very-well thought out, however I did add two items: a battery powered LED nightlight, and a closet pole mounted between the walls for a high roost. We set the coop up high on aluminum legs so it's off the ground, then built a little cedar ramp for it.

I'm completely happy with it!

Awesome! Could you post some pictures of your Eglu Go please? They're so cool looking, and your setup sounds quite interesting.

I love my eglu classic. I don't understand why they are so "controversial". The runs are small, true, but with the shades that come with them (or a clear shower curtain) they give the chickens a nice protected outside area for rainy days, or hot sunny days. Our chickens run around the yard for a good part of the day, but the run with extension gives my 3 chickens plenty of room for their down time. It is so easy to clean I can practically sterilize it. I'm hoping to get a cube at some point soon as we have added to our flock. It was expensive, but given the cost of trial and error with building our wooden coop it was probably a wash. I guess for some folks they are great, for others they're not.

I'll post some pictures when I get a chance.

Another thing I love about the coop is that it's easily moved by one person. I can pick it up and put it in the back of the truck, no problem, or move it from the yard to the garage. We travel a lot and yes--we take the three chickens, two rabbits, and one fish with us. Also, I'm guessing the double wall construction would make it easy to add a layer of insulation, if your climate dictates.

Prices must have come way down from earlier years because I paid less than $300 for mine, including freight via UPS.

Hi there. I am looking for a coop so my kids can grow up loving and caring for animals and the Eglu seems to be the perfect choice.

Can you tell me where did you buy it? I live in West Los Angeles.

Thank you.
