I had no idea people rented chickens!:lau OH my, I can't imagine renting a chicken when you can buy one just as cheap. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø I saw it on the news tonight when they ran a clip about chick sales being higher than ever.
I'm also wondering if this pandemic impulse buying is also going to lead to buyer regret when this is all over.šŸ¤”
I'm picturing homeless chickens running amok like stray dogs. 😳
Anyone else saw this news cast and had a thought?

Your post immediately reminded me of the time period when the movie 101 Dalmatians came out. EVERYONE wanted a Dalmatian! Unfortunately that breed isn’t for everyone and as you stated, ā€œbuyer’s regretā€ occurred and there were so many abandoned Dalmatians......
As far as chickens.....yes! I can see why so many people are wanting them now. In fact, I just incubated 15 chicks for one of my neighbors who had chickens in the past and am currently incubating more to add to my friend’s existing flock. I wouldn’t do it if I felt that the chickens wouldn’t be cared for after the pandemic is over....
There are so many people out there that feel that chickens are disposable and will not provide them with the care that they deserve!

Yeah I'm thinking of a bunch of sick chickens after a while spreading something else. I remember the dalmatian and the jack russell terrier fad! And so many people dis not realize how high energy and hard headed both breeds can be.

I have two silkies sitting on eggs right now but the eggs are so small and I'm not sure about eating black chicken so I'm going to have to he pretty hungry to resort to that.🤭

Renting chickens?? Unless the fee is pennies a week** I would see zero benefit to that. They already cost more to own than it costs to buy some eggs at the grocery store. If renting is a real thing I guess people can give em back in the winter when they stop laying.
The lady they interviewed said ot would be the most expensive eggs she ever bought but worth the new experience to her, To each their own I guess.😸

šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø then buy your own chickens lady 🤣 . But I guess laying hens can get pretty high up there like $50-100. So maybe if they want to rent some JUST for this pandemic it won’t be such a bad idea. Better than buying a bunch of chicks and realizing you don’t want the responsibility or realizing late that it will take at a minimum 4 months for a hen to start laying and by then this chaos will have calmed down (hopefully).
