I've been coming home from work to find Diesel waiting for me at the door, when he's supposed to be waiting for me in his kennel!!! The first time I chalked it up to not latching both latches. I'd been only latching the top, I decided to do both. It happened again. Ok..... So I thought I wasn't turning them both far enough. I made sure, ABSOLUTLEY SURE I did it right when I left for the gun club today with pops. And low and behold, the dog had done it again. So today I decided to set up the webcam... just to see if he'd do it. I went around the corner and hit the wall a few times to make like I was leaving, and sure enough, not even a minute after I left he was hard at work... I didn't latch the top latch this time, because I didn't think he would preform for the camera, but evidently he's not camera shy at all. I'm going to have to resort to a pad lock next!!!

what a sneak!

I have the same crate for my girl, and she's hurt her paws once or twice by scratching and trying to get out.

We made the mistake of not putting her in the crate a few times, feeling bad you know - came home to every dang trash can dumped out all over the floor!

Diesel has an affinity for wood. He's chewed up table legs, chair legs, cabinet doors, baseboards.... and his latest victim tonight was the baby gate

But, as Belle pointed out, I needed a new one anyhow.

we use a baby gate, just so the dog doesn't run after the cat upstairs every five seconds. I realised how pointless that was when she jumped over the gate and followed us upstairs when the kids went to bed one night. I really wonder why we still put that darn gate up every day!

It really looks like he could use the next size up crate.
I think the Airline crates with the spring loaded latches are more secure. Otherwise you don't need a padlock, really, just use a dog leash hook or something similar to clip the wires together in a couple of places.

Dusti doesn't do anything *bad* but we still crate her when we sleep, and usually when we leave. Mainly because she makes noise in the house while we're trying to sleep. Not sure what she's doing - never could catch her in the act, sometimes she just decides to do a LOT of scratching herself up against out bedroom door, but I KNOW she sleeps in her crate so that's what we do.

My JRT does that. She figured out how to slip through the door when the bottom latch wasn't hooked. She can open them when they aren't latched. I have to yell at her every night to stop it when she tries to dig her way out.
