Magical words every chicken loving wife wants to hear. Don't be jealous ladies! My fabulous husband only had to say it once for my mind to take off with ideas. Most of which were found right here! I won't bore you with lengthy explanations on every little detail - I will just load you up with lots of pictures! Really, that is what you want anyway.
This is our first coop we put together this past May. The inside of the coop is a mere 3' x 3'. I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. I was so naive. Crawling in that little door to clean got old real fast.

Ground breaking was July 5. Construction would not commence without proper inspection.
And there were a lot of inspections. No pile of dirt was left untouched.

Here is the site of the new magnificent coop. It's kind of hard to see, there's a lot of wood
going on with the fence all around, but the posts are in.

Hmm, what have I done? What do I do now? Haha, he really did have a plan. He just never stops thinking.

Fast forward 2 weeks. Here is the frame and floor of the new coop. It clearly surpasses
what they are in now. Yes, it is that little teeny red house in front.

Side view of coop. Clearly there is plenty of room for my 3 GSLs and lemon cuckoo orpington roo!
And possibly a few more . . .

After a long hot day working, hubby is tired. But nothing will knock down this fortress!

Now, how am I going to give my wonderful wife access so she can clean this coop with ease?
All it took was a little thinking.

I'll put a window in here that can prop open with hardware cloth behind it. And a door so she
doesn't have to crawl around to clean inside. Both of which were repurposed from our home.

This is another repurposed window on the side (there are 3 in all). And yes, I painted an S on it
for "side" because he framed it out specifically to that window. I know, genius.

Here is the really cool pop door he built that slides.

This is the front of the coop that swings open for easy cleaning. Because, lets be honest here.
It is all about us. I was sitting inside here painting the other day and decided I want a tree
house next. It is very cozy!!

We used some kind of composite roofing from Lowes. I shop by color.

Tongue and groove siding. We went back and forth between T1-11, pywood, shingles and settled on this.
We will stain it when it is all up. There will also be venting at the top of this wall, along the top of the
front, and the other side. Wow, you can really see how the new coop dwarfs the old!

Here is the inside of the coop. My husband put door arms (i don't know what they are called)
on the windows so I can prop them open at any angle. He is so smart. And I am so lucky!
There is one big sheet of linoleum on the floor.

The dimentions of the new coop are 5 x 5. The whole footprint is 5 x 16.
The front is roughly 7' tall and the back is roughly 5'.
My husband's goal is to get complete enough so they can spend this weekend in it.
We are going away for a long weekend and I would love for them to have room to run!
Let us know what you think, and stay tuned - there's more to come!!
