I slapped a hawk today.

I am sitting at my desk choking on my lunch as I read this post. OMG... funny. The mental picture of you smacking the hawk with the kindle... everyone around me thinks I'm nuts laughing myself silly. I would share, but they won't appreciate it. They think I am nuts for having chickens in the first place, let alone reading about other peoples.

Anyway, thanks for the good laugh, I will giggle about this the rest of the day.

Yes-you can wear headphones and listen to the book being read to you. But I was just hoping to sit down and read for a bit. What was I reading? Sweetness at the Bottom of Pie. It's ok. Someone just recommended the book, Coop. Has anyone hear read it?

I am so glad you guys are here to share this story with....my family just rolled their eyes when I ran in, breathless, telling them my tale. I would have thought it was so cool if my Mom had chickens when I was kid. My kids just think I am odd.

Not to hijack the post, but I'd love it if you would email or PM me some books you have on your kindle and have enjoyed
I'm going on a trip and need some things to read on mine.
it gets overwhelming when I am looking at the kindle books. I'd love some recommendations!

adding my kindle to my hawk protection gear....
whistle, big stick, crow audio tapes, hat, crow decoys, mylar balloons, kindle....

The one here almost got one of my Red Stars. He pulled out all the feathers on her neck and back. She got away and hid under the porch where it couldn't get her. It didn't leave for a day though. Luckily she didn't have any serious wounds and all her feathers have grown back.

I laughed really hard when I read this post's title! Then I read the rest and WOW! I've been worried about the turkey vultures and crows... I'll be watching more carefully for the hawks! We don't seem to have many though... maybe the crows are keeping them away.
