LOL I am still laughing at the fact you knocked the hawk out. My flock free range on a daily basis, lots of woodlands around here so we have a ton of hawks and eagles. My chickens have become quite used to the duck and cover method to escape them. They have lots of wildlife helping them out. The robins and blue jays are notorious for chasing hawks away. At least once a day one flies over the house, I have even had them fly right over my head, I could have reached up and grabbed them. So far in 4 years we have only lost one hen to a hawk. The hen whom we lost was the most curous chicken I have ever had, she wasn't afraid of anything and would walk up to any kind of animal around trying to make a new friend. The neighbors have seen me running and screaming "HAWK!!! TAKE COVER" on several occasions. SO help me god if I saw one getting a chicken of mine I'd be beating feet over there with a shovel and give him one heck of a headache.
