I'm beginning to understand the chicken math too. I've only had these new ones since Thursday, and I'm already thinking that it would be cool to get more. lol

Thats how it starts i got 2 hens from my neighbor, his father is older and didn't want to care for them over the winter. so i got them at the end of summer. 1 died after 2 months. so i got 3 chicks around nov first, 1 died shortly after they arrived. Now the other two are in the big coop. and i got 2 laying hen chicks and 4 cornish x about 3 wks ago. I think i'm addicted Lol.

Tomorrow (Thursday) morning will make one week since I brought my new chickens home, and here's the eggs I have so far;

I'll be eating some of them tomorrow, to celebrate.

I'm almost positive that the dark ones in the back row were laid by this hen;

...and the lighter ones by this hen;

They're the only ones I've actually seen getting up off of an egg, and the barred hen got up off one of the lighter colored eggs today.

Thanks.

Today they all wandered farther than ever before, and one of the roosters didn't come back. They had gone up near the pond, where I saw a bobcat while I was deer hunting in November, so I'm guessing he's not just lost (though I'd love it if he came back tomorrow). After all the others were locked in the coop, I drove up the road and the woods trail to the pond, hoping to see him, but no success. I didn't see any feathers around either though, so maybe...

I am bran new to this,and am looking for ideas before I start my coop. Same deal, turning a shed into a coop. I love what you've done! Like you said if I hadn't discovered this site I would be doing everything wrong!I don't have as much time though, I have 9 babies and am keeping them in a box in another shed. But it has windows and heat already so they're warm at night. It's still pretty cool at night.
