Isn't it cool how peanuts grow? They're legumes, but they grow as these little bushy things. The nuts start out growing above-ground, then kinda push underground and grow there until you dig 'em up. A pitchfork would probably be great for harvesting them, just kinda lever out that whole clump of dirt and shake all the dirt back into the hole so you keep the plant. And, as legumes, they put nitrogen into your soil! Some people alternate planting peanuts with planting other things in order to avoid having to use nitrogen-adding fertilizers. That's not so much an issue for chicken keepers, though, I suppose.
