Im pretty sure i saw a ruddy duck today while i was walking by a lake. I have a dog walking job for someone with 4 golden retrievers and when i was walking by the lake near their house, i noticed a small duck that stuck out amongst all the swans and young mallards. It was quite small, much to small to be a mallard, and the first time i passed it i noticed the tail feathers were sticking up just like those of a ruddy. It looked like a female because it had stripes on the face. Of course i got really happy when i saw it because I'm tired of seeing just mallards, mallards, mallards, and oh, the occasional bibbed mallard. It was VERY small but i know thats just the way they are.

Defiantly sounds like it could be one. Lovely species! I see them occasionally down here

Ruddy is a breed. Apparently a prolific breeder - a few years ago huge amounts of money were spent in an attempt to eradicate them from the UK.

I have never seen one in real life, and yes, they are the cutest things ever!!! <3 I had no idea they lived in my area but now I'm going to keep an eye out for more!
