I have been eating duck eggs for about 3 months now. The last 3 weeks or so I have been feeling nauseated a lot.

I finally narrowed it down to duck eggs. Ugh! I really like duck eggs but when I eat them I feel sick for hours. The larger

the amount I eat the worse I feel. I don't think anything is wrong with the eggs because 5 other members of my family

have been eating them with no problems. I am still fine with chicken eggs. Why would this be?

Could it be something else.....if you know what I mean

I am allergic to chicken eggs, but not duck or quail eggs. You can be allergic to one and not the others. The protein in the egg whites is different for each type of bird and the proteins are what trigger the allergic reaction.

We have the same problem in my family. Both my brother and my mom are allergic to duck eggs, but love chicken eggs. We also have a friend who is allergic to chicken eggs but loves duck eggs. It works both ways.

Thanks Pringle at least I am not crazy. I never thought nausea or vomiting could actually be a symptom of an allergy.

Sonjab314- I am sure it is not something else! lol

Thanks Wifezilla, that explains the why. Different proteins in the egg whites. I wonder if I would be allergic to quail eggs too.

This is a bummer. Do you think I could be allergic to duck meat? I had plans for this spring....

Oh, they were rather like what you described -- nausea and vomiting. My brother had it worse, but he is also allergic to some other foods as well. But, concerning duck meat, they were completely fine with that, so I wouldn't think you should have any problems eating it.

Yup--lots of folks allergic to chicken eggs can eat duck eggs just fine--and vice versa. The symptoms you describe are exactly what my neighbors experienced and it took them a while to narrow it down to the eggs (I felt SO bad! lol). Different proteins, different allergies.

So sorry--that really stinks, especially after you've invested in ducks. And duck eggs are so yummy.

At least you know now... (and you're NOT pregnant, are you?)
