I've never used a light and my ladies lay like crazy all year long.

I have never had a light in my coop =I am in NC and I get between 5-8eggs every day from 9 girls.. I would say-leave the lights out.. Even when it was getting dark at 4:30-5:00--I got at least 5 eggs...
