I think I have came up with a lemon colored silkie!(PIC)

I hope they do finish up that colour. To be honest they look the same colour as some chicks which were actually white.

Some months ago I was excited, thinking I had a fantastic new colour.

....... but then started noticing that the white meat birds were the same fantastic new colour.

....& that white skinned birds were going yellow.

As it transpired it was the chick crumb. It was really very orange, no idea why. Changed the chick crumb & before very long my wonderful new colour reverted to white.

Yes SunAngel the wing feathers are yellow. I cant wait to see how they turn out! At first I thought they were white silkies too but I have a older one (about 1 1/2 months) that looks white from farther away and as you get closer you can tell he looks lemon colored. It is a very light lemon color but I thought maybe if I kept all the lemon colored chicks and bred them that I could intensify the color like Windchyme said. I was going to take a picture of the older one but you cant tell that he has a yellowish color on the pictures I took. I really hope they stay this color.

Roopty I recommend you send me some eggs from them so we can test to make sure it isn't the broody. I'll be happy to test and see if they come out lemon out of an incubator!

Can you post a photo of the lemon chicks with a regular buff chick?

I have on a couple of occasions hatched a chick that was pale yellow, and the initial feathering looked pale yellow, but in final feathering the bird was white. Not sure what caused that.

I know that cream silkies have been achieved, although not in any numbers. If both parents are buff, then a further diluter must be recessive and carried by both parents, otherwise it would show in whichever parent has it.

Buff plus lavlav gives isabel. Buff plus igig should give either cream or lemon. I can't think of any other recessive red/gold dilution genes other than silver, and they wouldn't be buff if they were silver. Although males could be mixed Ss, golden.

Here is a buff and lemon silkie chick. Sorry the pic is a little blurry. I really think it is the female that is causing these chicks. If the chicks dont turn out how I am hoping they turn out she will be takin out of the breeding pen.
