I think i have read everything and I still need help please

1.what i read says the eggs need fresh air-but i have to plug the holes to get the humidity up, how will they get fresh air?

2.My thermostat cycles 95* and 108* right now and I was thinking the average temp isinside the egg is what counts right? well now i dont know if this fluctuation is ok or not.
Im installing the digital thermometer probe tommorrow. one of the last things before I add eggs.

If you are talking about a Hova or LG they have air holes in the bottom. Two large holes on the top are what people talk about plugging.

95 - 108 would tell me you have a thermostat problem. Going to 108 you may just lose the eggs.

Have you checked temps at egg level and tried a couple bottles of water inside the incubator for 24 hours to see if the swings stop?

Yeah, that thermostat will work well on a water heater... but not in an incubator. 10 deg in hot water from your sink is fine, but 10 deg swing in the bator can spell end of chicks. Your new thermostat/thermometer probe should fix that.

As for humidity and air holes, if there are no more holes to open without decreasing humidity, increase the surface area of the water. That will up the humidity.

Silkichiken I dont know what you mean---Thermostat thermometer probe will fix????? I got the hot water heater thermostat wired to the light----do I need to buy a new thermostat to wire to light? How come the others worked? oh oh I am panicking now

you might be getting big fluctuations because the bator is empty,do like kstaven said and put a couple bottles of water in there to see if that will level out the temp,make sure the water is blood warm,test with your finger if you cant feel warm or cold it should be good,I use a hot water heater thermostst and it works fine if you have the right one.maybe also you might have to change bulbs,I use a 60 watt,some use a 40,they all are different,you just got to play around with it and dial it in,good luck

Are those the temps inside a wiggler, or ambient temps?


Some of it depends on what thermometer you are using, and how sensitive it is. The thermometer everyone on here seems to use (the Accurite) only swings about 3 degrees total in my incubator. My other thermom, though, swings about 8 degrees. What really matters is the temp in your weasel/heat sink, not the ambient temp. After awhile, I ignore the ambient temps, and just rely on the probe in the weasel, since that tells me what's really going on.

Also, put your incubator in the room in your house with the most consistant temp, since that will make a big difference.
