Day 17.... I just woke up and went in to check the bator, and it was at 70 degrees....

For some reason the breaker was tripped and so who knows how long it was that it was off.... long enough to get clear down to normal temp.

I hurry and candled them and I could see movement in all but one egg, is that a good sign at all or am I out of luck?

Has anyone had this happen and still have the chicks survive?

This is my first time and I thought I was doing so good and we almost made it to the end but then this happened... makes me never want to try again.

While I haven't had this happen, I would say that having movement in the eggs is still a good sign. Since you don't know how long the bator was off for, and how cool the EGGS themselves actually got, plug it back in and cross your fingers...good luck!

Relax-I think they will be just fine! If it had gotten up to 110, it would be more cause for worry. Think about this-a hen gets off her nest and the eggs get to room temp., but she usually has excellent hatch rates, right? We want pictures when they hatch! Good luck!

Oh gosh yes, if they are moving they are alive! Of course it is worrisome, but from everything I have read, a temp drop is MUCH less of a problem than a temp rise.

They probably just thought, oh, Mom is off the nest right now.

I had a new hen go broody, and being a new mom, she didn't want to sit too often. Most days I'd find her off her eggs and in the coop. Didn't give much hope. But she still hatched 2 out of 12....

You might be ok.

I would still give it a go.. I would say if they are moving they should be fine.. I have heard of temps doing some carzy things and babies still hatching from them.. Good luck JKeep us posted...

I guess I really have nothing to lose by this point, but I just home the movement I saw wasn't there last little fleeting moments of life.... i know mother hen gets up and leaves her eggs.... but not for 8 hours right?

I think your chicks are going to be fine.
I haven't had the same experience with a bator but I had a broody go off her nest for 12 hours one time on day 19.
The eggs were cold to the touch and I was so upset. But she jumped back on the eggs and they all hatched a couple days later.
Good luck!

Last summer when we did our very first hatch, I had 5 chicks hatch. Let them fluff up, put them in the brooder, unplugged bator and enjoyed our new babie. Next day, go to clean out the eggs and one is pipped and working very hard so........ we fired up the bator, said a little prayer and six hours later we had "Mr. E" ~ mystery. He was a bit wobbly but perked up and is doing great! I think all willl be well.
