I think I'm broody...

Dark Bronze... lol ok, umm, is that a new color/variety? A Bronze keet would look like a Royal Purple keet (broken head stripes, not solid all one color) but we'll see how he feathers out in a couple weeks and I'll most likely be able to tell you what he is

Cool beans on the next batch of eggs... can't beat eggs for just the price of shipping, no matter what color they hatch out as, lol.

I know, I thought that was strange, too. But I figured I'd mention it here. He's definitely pied, he's got white feathers coming in on the tips of his wings. I'm hoping to get new pictures of him today if I can. :) He's adorable.

I agree. I bought the first 13 for $67 (wow...) and the next two batches each for $15. I'd say that's pretty good. Hopefully it'll be one of the last times I ever have to buy shipped eggs. Unless I end up building them their own breeder coop, if I do that I'd probably order the rare and fancy assortments from Ralph Winter.

I sure hope I get a Buff or Buff Dundotte. But again I'll be happy with anything. :) I think this past hatch has been the highest percentage I've ever had from shipped eggs. The most I can remember before that was 10 out of 24. So I wasn't disappointed at all with this last hatch, but I'm not complaining that the seller insisted on trying again, lol!

I've been meaning to take and post pictures of Mr. Oswald every week, but things got crazy here and I only have a few pictures...

But here he is.

One week old:

Two weeks old:

And 5 weeks old:

To me, he looks a shade darker than the Pearl Greys so I don't know. But I'll try my best to get a comparison picture some time this week. He's certainly a cutie.

And the little Lavender Pied with the eye issue (his name is Cotton) is doing wonderfully. He's much more timid than the others but he's getting around great.

My last batch of eggs is in the process of hatching now, and I already have more colors than I have with the past two hatches. The first to hatch looks Pearl Grey, the second might be a Coral Blue, third is some kind of blue but he's still a bit wet, and the fourth is a very heavily pied Pearl I think. I've got 3 other pips as well. I'll post pictures when they're all out and fluffed up.

Thanks for posting pics of him Mmmaddie. He looks like he is feathering out normal Pied Pearl Grey to me... he may be a little darker, but I'd have to see him side by side to another that's his same age. Sometimes the shade of grey behind all the pearling can vary, depending on the bloodline. He sure was dark compared to most of the blended down keets I've seen or hatched tho. Looks like he's going to have pearlin all the way up his neck too.

And congrats on another hatch

I had to force myself to stop setting Guinea eggs for the season due to the lack of brooder space (I have Poults, Peachicks and Silkies/Showgirls galore)... but the empty-ish incubator is starting to tug at me every time I walk by, lol.

I've got another in this hatch that looks like him. I'll take pictures of them, too, today. And I'll get one of Oswald next to a Pearl hatch-mate.

This last hatch is over, I think, and guess what number I ended up with? 7! Lol must be my lucky number. But this is a quite lovely colored hatch, I can't wait to show you. :)

Alright here's the new gang. What colors do you see? Sorry the picture isn't really bright, it looked good on my phone (that's what I take pictures with, too lazy to whip out the big camera). I'm happy I got a white one! He was the last to hatch, and was pipped at the wrong end of the shell. The heavy pied one was also pipped at the small end, but both of them made it out on their own, which I am thankful for. The dark one on the left looks like Oswald, kind of.

I also have a Pearl Grey who is showing signs of AE (possibly), so he's in isolation. He's doing well, though, cute as a button.

Top center keet is what some people consider Chocolate.. but in my flocks that's closer to how my Blondes look as keets... so it could go either way. Looks like pure White to the left (I see a little color on it's back, but that may just be some goo from hatching?), the 3 dark blended down keets are going to be Pied Pearl Greys (all 3 with different degrees of Pied), and the blue keet on the right looks like a Lavender with blended down. I can't see it's face but I'd bet it feathers out to have a few white flights and a couple white chest feathers (slightly Pied).

Congrats Mmmaddie!

Quote: Yep SandShaven, Oswald (on the right) had blended down as a keet, no stripes on the head or body... but he was extra super dark, darker than her latest dark keet in this last hatch. I was assuming he was a Pied Pearl Grey (and he is) but I wasn't 100% positive since he was the darkest blended down keet I've seen yet.
