I think it is time to move my chicks outside

I don't know what your coop looks like or how open it is down low, but by breeze protection I mean at the lowest level where they are. It doesn't matter what the wind is doing over their heads. Some kind of wind block 8" of of the floor should be more than adequate.

I brood outside, even when ambient temperatures are below freezing. It doesn't matter what the conditions are where the chicks are not, it only matters where they are. That brooder in the coop has great breeze protection down low but up high it has great ventilation. I think good ventilation up high really helps.

I used to be able to get low wattage heat lamps at a hardware store, but not any more. Now I have to order them online.

This is what they have for a coop. It isn't fancy but I am watering the grass in their run so it grows and they will feel protected.

I am all sweaty now as I had to go over to the neighbors as one of these guys managed to escape through a gap in the floor of the ghetto coop. Fortunately it didn't get eaten by their dogs and was inside their "free if you haul it off craigslist trailer". Goth girl is now back home safely and the hole has been sealed with hay. Full image included as it is so inspirational to me. I try to out white trash my neighbors but they keep winning.
