i think its my first duck egg...

I think (hope) I got my first duck egg. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I just thought duck eggs looked different than chicken eggs if only in size. It looks exactly like several of my hens' eggs. So how does one tell them apart? I have a picky customer and I fear I could have given her one without realizing (if the duck laid in the coop).

Hi there, I wouldn't worry too much about it..what breed of duck is it and what breed of hens do you have?? Most of my duck eggs taste nearly exactly the same as a chicken egg, although some heavier breeds of ducks may have a stronger taste from the yolk

They say that duck eggs look waxier than chicken eggs.

I figured it out when I went to wash them. Those duck eggs are slippery little buggers lol.

My duck is a Swedish Blue and I have a huge variety of chickens.

On another note, there seems to be blood spots in all the duck' s eggs. Any clue why? It's like a small splattering, not just one spot.

Are your drakes rough on your girls? That could cause it.

I only have the pair and I've never seen any "action", but she doesn't look like she's missing feathers or anything.

I wouldn't worry about it unless she starts showing signs of illness. If she's laying regularly that is a pretty good indicator that she's feeling just fine.
