seems like the 4 of each is a good idea with most, haha.

ummm, what's an E.E. Oh, I hope it's not something simple and I'm not too bright, lol.

good to know that the ROcks are friendly, that is good news.

and that the speckled Sussex are cheaper then the other.

now to be able to find them......

EEs (Easter Eggers) are what hatcheries sell as Ameraucanas or Araucanas, but are not really. They can lay green or blue eggs, but on occasion, one may be a brown egglayer.

My favorite all-round chicken is the Barred Rock for personality and laying consistency.

I also think you should get a mix. I like a mixed flock, and it will be easier to tell them apart if you have a few different breeds.

I also agree that Easter Eggers are cool. I just love mine! Beautiful birds that lay interesting eggs.

the US has lots of neat hatchery places, that do the mail thing. can't find them here in Canada either.

i have a doting 11 year old sister and a 2 year old cousin who goes out there and all of the my chickens put up with them well i have barred rocks and EE's and also new hampshire reds i no you didnt have them on your list but that is just me throwing something in there......but they all put up with the "abuse" children can put out.

My granddaughter was 5 when we took her with us to pick out a mixed flock of pullets. She chose 6 speckled sussex pullets. She carries them around and they are great layers. She named all 6 princess as she couldn't ell them apart. They are 3 years old now and still lay very well. I aslo have 2 that go broody. I vote for the speckeld sussex
