I'm kind of sad.
After MANY retrievals, lock ups, and trying again, Daisy has officially been rehomed with the neighbors and her husband. I went over there again tonight to get her and the neighbors were out and they said that she and Romeo (whose real name is Casper, as it turns out) are absolutely inseparable. He does not try to mate with other hens, they hang out together all day away from the other chickens....they're totally in love.
The last few times I've brought her home, she has stayed away from all my other chickens unless they were all locked in the run. The second I'd open the coop door, she'd scatter and head right for the woods and return to her man.
We decided that the best thing for everyone involved is to let Daisy stay where she wants to be. In return, we are getting two chicks as soon as their momma is done with them. (Pullets please!
)
Daisy has a favorite nest box and apparently she lays nice dark green eggs. I raised her only for her to run away right when she starts laying beautiful eggs.
But I think she's happy and I'm sick of trotting over there every day and I just can't keep her locked up by herself forever. Plus we can go visit. Once I decide to incubate eggs, they said I could have some of her eggs so I can have a few grandbabies.
She was my prettiest EE and I really feel like this is what she wants, but I'll miss her!
