I need some advice.. So I have caught my one duck ( the only duck I have) was trying to mate with more than one of my hens AND MY ROOSTER!!!!! My duck is a muscovy duck. Well almost all of my hens seem to be loosing all their feathers on their backs. And one in particular is being eaten alive. Her back is almost to the bone. So my question is this: Could my duck do that damage to my hens?
Could it be another predator? I have 10 hens and 1 rooster. My girlfriend seems to think that a rat or a mouse is going in the coop at night an doing that to the hens. But when I look through my coop I see NO dropping from mice or rats. So is my duck causing this harm? Please help me! Thank you

I once had a rooster that would do this to my ducks. Has this started happening recently? Did you just get the duck?

Yes, this defiantly sounds like a serious case of mismatch. When ducks mate it often results in some minor feather loss on the back of the neck. When a drake is overly mating hens, severe feather loss is common. Your duck could absolutely kill your chickens. Sounds like it's time to seperate.

It's very probable the male duck.
My Muscovy male killed 3 pullet chickens in less than 24 hours. He was trying to mate with them, and just flattened them. The older hens knew to stay out of his way. I have some ducks separate from my chickens. I have a pair of khaki's and 2 Muscovy hens that are part of my chicken flock.
I caged the Muscovy male and sent him to my son's house. The killing stopped.
