Hi duck family
I got 2 female Pekin ducks in May and a khaki Campbell drake in July. They started to mate late September and the girls started to lay eggs. I was checking the eggs and they all looked fertile. I have even posted on here with others agreeing. I have since incubated over 30 eggs and not one ever even starts to develop. At first I thought it was my incubator so I bought a new one. Then I thought maybe my temp was off so I added 6 hygrometers to make sure I was perfectly on with heat and humidity. Keeping it at 37.5 temp and around 45 humidity but not single one ever did anything. My thoughts after researching is maybe my girls were Pekin cross with Muscovy
Making them sterile. My drake is full khaki Campbell. We lost one of our girls not long ago and I had hoped to hatch one of her eggs so we could have a part of her. The girls are sisters and both sets of their eggs produce nothing. The one girl did have a black feather a few months back but did fall out
Is there a way to tell if they are cross bred ? They look Pekin to me but the eggs not doing anything has me thinking
I will attach pics of my girls younger and now and the one with the black feather

Wow, that sure is disappointing to try so many times and not get any develop!
If you haven't yet, I would search for ducks mating on YouTube so you can see what the final portion looks like, that way you know if your drake was successfully mating or not.

They look like Pekins. Have you actually seen your drake mating with these girls? I don't mean just climbing on but actually making contact?
They sure are pretty.
Yes I have seen him make contact
He gets my girl the second I let them out of the duck house in the morning then a few more times through the day
The fact that all the eggs I have opened checking for fertility seem to be fertile as well has me really confused.
I have contacted the lady I got my drake from and she is going to take some of my eggs this weekend and try them in her incubator as she hatches babies all the time. She is also bringing me some of her eggs to try in my incubator.
this should give us some answers as to if it’s my incubator , me or my girl.
we didn’t keep contact for the people we got the girls from so I can’t even ask if they were mixed with Muscovy. It’s the only thing I can come up with on why nothing ever attempts to start in these eggs.
thank you

I don't have any suggestions, but I will be watching to see what you find out. This is definitely puzzling!

Would eggs be fertile if the drake was not successful? I have seen him climb on and once he is stable she lifts her butt and he puts his down and then they are connected
It doesn’t last very long though. He has done it right beside me as he isn’t shy
I’m fact the other morning I had the grandkids here and they wanted to check for eggs so we went and opened the duck house and the second they came out he got her right in front of the 4 and 5 year old. Yikes I had to explain that’s how they fertile eggs lol

No.

That sounds like he is mating just fine. Usually the part that takes longer is the actual positioning, the actual act of mating only takes a few seconds.
This is puzzling. Your girls do look like pekins to me, but I'll confess I don't have much experience with mules.
I suppose it's possible that drake himself is sterile, but that is not something that is common.
What are you feeding them?

No.

They are on chicken feed layer
Also I add some crushed oyster shells to get food
Then of course they get treats
Mixed baby leaf greens , corn , cabbage , grapes , peas and rice all in moderation other then the greens as it’s winter here so grass is not available so I give them this mix each day
I also provide crickets , meal worms and Minos Once a week as a treat as finding bugs in the winter is tough.
