I kept hearing something in my laundry room. When I looked it was a bull snake 3' long. It had it's neck area under the head caught in a mouse trap. I got tongs and put it's head in a wooden box, with a lid, it slide the rest of it's body into the box to hide. I took it out side, and my DH used tongs to hold the head, while taking off the trap and letting it go.
I went out and all four babies were perched on top of Mom, but when they saw me they all tumbled off and scrambled back to safety, do I didn't get a picture.
Mom brought the chicks out and I found another snake. Not IN the coop this time, but in the garage wall adjacent to the run. I never thought they might be inside the walls!
At two weeks Mom is already starting to distance herself. She still keeps an eye on the babies, they sleep under her at night, but she's letting them wander away from her during the day.
I worried about them with this heat, but so far they appear to be doing fine.
One is starting to show banding, like their Dad (a Bielefelder).
