I guess my infared thermometer is off a bit. I put the heat lamp above a new hatchling and measured just under 100F. After a while it went limp and I thought it was dead. It was still breathing, but not responding. I took the heat lamp off and it seemed to recover after a while; it can move it's eyes and feet but has no control over the rest of the body. I think it may have permanent damage. Maybe spinal column.
