For over a week or 2 now my hens have been laying weird. At first we thought it might be snakes but that wasn't it. Three days of the week one of us is at home so we let the chicken roam free. (our 3 acres are fenced in) The other 4 days we keep them in their large coop until we get home. We were out of town for a few days and they had to stay in on their usual days out and since then on the days we work we only get one egg instead of four. When the are out all day we get 3 or 4. Are they ticked off or is it something else.

Mine have done that before. About 2 months ago, they were like laying maybe 3, out of the 8. They did get over it. I don't know what caused it, perhaps its just normal. Kind of like, taking a break?

I don't know... I have 4 hens at laying age, and I'm barely getting 2 a day... some days come and go with only 1 egg.

?!?!?

Its been in the upper 90's and humid lately... heat maybe?!

Thanks, makes me feel better knowing they're not just ticked off at me. I thought about letting out before I go to work but there's coyotes in the area so that wasn't going to happen.

That's about normal for this time of year. It's hot and the heat makes them slow down, if not quit laying all together.

My two 1-year olds are not laying well either, and it's not even hot here. I think one is about 1/day but the other has decided she's only laying every 2 or 3 days. Last year it was 1/day from everyone. Hens!

I'm only getting 1 a day total from my 4 hens, not sure who's layin when but I did check their vents since I'm not sure of their ages.
