My guinea went broody about a week ago and has been sitting ever since. She made her nest in the field outside of my fence. I didn’t want her out there so I brought her back for the nights and let her out early. She was so depressed being in at night that I gave in and let her sit. Things were going good until now. I would leave my window open so I’d hear her at night if something tried to get her. I got up around eight AM and she was outside the guinea pen waiting to eat with the others before returning to her nest like every morning. I do fear my nesting guinea has been eaten... All I found was the intact nest and a pile of feathers nearby. There was no blood but there was around 50 or more feathers... She was here this morning so I don’t know what happened... I was gone all day and went to check on her a couple minutes ago and that’s what I found. Something must have happened during the day. Her nest is not disturbed at all. Here’s a picture of what she looked like on her nest. I’m keeping my fingers crossed but I’m not very hopeful. :hit :( :fl

Sorry. This is why I do not allow my guinea hens to sit on nests overnight. A daytime predator that would take the hen and leave the eggs is either a fox, coyote, dog or raptor.

Good luck.

Thanks both of you. I went out and gathered the eggs along with the feathers. I already had eggs in my incubator so I could only fit half her brood. The ones that I put in were still alive and developing just cold to the touch. I’m not sure what to do with the rest of the eggs, as I can’t fit them... Here’s some pictures of the scene... there was another pile of feathers further out but I didn’t get a picture.

Geez, in broad daylight too!!! That’s so rough! I have one that’s been broody on an outdoor nest but I force her in every night and take all of the eggs. I was ill two nights ago and my DD got the guinea in the coop bit forgot the eggs... I found them smashed and eaten the next day when I checked, proof of what would have happened to the hen of she’d been on them that night... I expected that she would be in great danger sitting at night, but i didn’t expect it so much during the day!!! I’m so sorry!

Thanks much. I thought she’d be safe as well since she’s been in this spot everyday for months... I figured if she was safe during the nights then I could leave her during the day without fear...

That’s been my thinking as well. I guess that if they are too much “in the zone“ on their nests then they may not leave in time when a predator comes... :hit

I am so sorry. My guinea Sassy had become broody and depressed when we took her eggs that she stopped even talking so finally we just let her and her mate Chill keep a nest. A fox came and took Chill when he was protecting Sassy and I felt so horrible. I couldn't even find so much as a feather pile but he was deeply in love with her and never left her side. I am so sorry that this happened to your girl. Can you incubate any of the eggs so you can have a part of her?
