My silkie was laying on two eggs that a coworker gave me. I just removed one that I could tell had stopped growing and when I cracked it open, it was a big blob of what looked like fat. It didn't even resemble a chick.

My final egg that was doing so well is oozing. That's a sure sign it's bad, right? It doesn't smell though.

I'm so sad.

anyone? If it's not going to make it, I'm going to the feed store today and just buy some chicks to put under mama.

Sorry for your loss! But yes It is NOT a good sign if its leaking! How old is the egg? Is it pipped or just leaking from a crack? If its not a pip I would say contamination did it. So Sorry!

Good Luck and God Bless!

I just cracked it open and it looked the same as the last one....like a big blob of fat. Nothing at all resembling a chick. What do you think went wrong?

I'm going to go buy some banty chicks today so my rooster can mate with them and I can try this again out of my own eggs. The eggs were dirty when I got them so I don't know if that meant anything. I keep my chickens nesting boxes super clean so I usually don't have soiled eggs.

Thanks for all the help. I'll do things a LOT different next time.

if they were not discolored or smelly that actually rules out contamination. May have just not gotten warmed up soo enough or got too cold. its really hard to tell at this point. Sorry! may not have been fertil at all. If there was a body inside atleast you could guess a time of death. this would help narrow down the cause. Good luck with the new fuzzy Butts!

God Bless!
