We bought a BA Roo from a breeder in NJ in the beginning of January. He has been alone with 9 BA hens since then. Just candled my 1st set of eggs I saved from them, day 7, ALL ARE CLEAR! Any ideas? Thanks!

The Roo and his girls are all Black Australorps. He is about a year old and the girls range from 1 yr to 2 yrs. I am going to have to check out the fresh eggs for fertility. This stinks. I started with 81 eggs, 7 different breeds, these were a complete loss. Good thing I only put in 8.

Are you SURE the eggs are clear? You may want to give them another three days, just to be sure...

Have you seen the rooster breeding the hens? Do the hens respect him as a rooster, or is he at the bottom of the pecking order?

Yes, they are clear. All the other eggs we kept have definite veining. These are totally clear. He seems to be getting along fine but, now that I think of it, his comb is a tiny bit white on the tips only. Frostbite?
